Discover Bran
Photos, information and travel guides for your stay.
Bran, also known as miller's bran, is the component of a cereal grain consisting of the outer hard layers – the combined aleurone and pericarp – surrounding the endosperm. Corn (maize) bran also includes the pedicel. Along with the germ, it is an integral part of whole grains, and is often produced as a byproduct of milling in the production of refined grains. Bran is very nutritious, but is difficult to digest due to its high fiber content; its high fat content also reduces its shelf life as the oils/fats are prone to becoming rancid. As such, it is typically removed from whole grain during the refining process – e.g. in processing wheat grain into white flour, or refining brown rice into white rice.
As we explore Bran together, you'll discover a place that's steeped in tradition and folklore. From the imposing Bran Castle to the charming village streets, there's something here for every type of traveler. Whether you're an avid hiker, a history buff, or a fan of vampire lore, you'll find plenty to love in this enchanting region.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Bran is, of course, Bran Castle. Perched atop a rocky hill and surrounded by lush forests, this impressive fortress is said to have inspired Bram Stoker's famous novel, Dracula. Today, visitors can explore the castle's many rooms and courtyards, learning about its history and enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
